Honestly, my very favorite picture book was The Giving Tree. It still is one of my favorites. I remember having it read to my class in 3rd grade, and it really moved me. It still does, because it reminds me of both Leon and my mother. Some people give without definition of boundaries, really in a way that I admire. This book was my first idea of how God gives to us, and we rarely see it for what it is or appreciate His humility and generosity because we focus on ourselves. I wish I could be more like The Giving Tree.

As near as I can remember, Shel Silverstein was one of a few author illustrators who had a big career by doing nothing more than simple line drawings. I'd like be to able to get away with that. He sure had a huge audience and a long career doing these simple children's books.
Shel Silverstein was one of my daughters favorite author/illustrators. She could just sit and sit and read and read all of his books.
Shel Silverstein was an amazing human being, and I can easily see why this book was a favorite of you and so many others.
Yes, this is indeed, on the top of my list for picture books. It brings tears to my eyes every time. Of course, there is "Where The Wild Things Are", to move the imagination.

Oh, I love this book, too! I admit, I did not love it as a child because it always made me cry so I could never read it! Which probably means I did love it but I refused to open it again after that first time. Now (with a tear in my eye!) I can finally read it again! :)
