8 Things You May Not Know About Kathleen Rietz

1. When I was little, I wanted to be a "Solid Gold" dancer.
2. My sister and I used to catch flies and feed them to the spiders that had built webs in our garage window wells. Maybe this is why I include insects in a lot of my illustrations and photos. I still am fascinated by their little world.
3. My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. Mmmmmmm....
4. I have done some modeling, and once appeared on a box for an item which sold at Michael's stores. I went to buy the item so I could have the box, and cashier did not even recognize that it was my photo on the box.
5. I began my art career painting murals for a local business. I loved working on large surfaces. Ironically, now most of the work I do is very small and detailed.
6. I do not care for meat very much. I think I could live on whole grain bread, fruit, vegetables, nuts and cheeses. My diet consists mostly of these items.
7. I buy children's flip flops for myself in the summer because my feet are very small and adult sizes are often too big.
8. I am a night owl. Always have been.

I loved hearing more about your tastes, interests and likes and dislikes. I share a great love of mint chocolate chip ice cream...love the slow churned king so that I can have a bit more. I think you are going to love teaching, no, I know you will and the students will love you as well.

Oooo...I love drawing bugs too, Kathleen. I like how you can just make them up if you want to, and they'll still be recognizable as bugs.

Chocolate chip mint is one of my favorite flavors too. But have you tried McDonalds dip cones, where they dip the ice cream in chocolate...they could be addicting.

I,too, used to do murals. I had a company called Murals and More.

Since I'm a nutrtion writer, my diet is much like yours.

So, when the cashier didn't recognize you on the box did you say anything? =o)
I want to find that box now!
Great post, thanks for sharing.

Hi Everyone!

Hey Bron - I am not much of a dipped cone person, but everyone else I know seems to love them! They always seem messy to me...maybe I do not eat them fast enough. : ) That's cool that you did murals and you are a nutrition writer! We would have a lot in common to talk about. I love to cook, and have considered going back to school to become a nutritionist or dietician...it is an important part of my lifestyle.

No, Roz, I did not tell the cashier it was my photo on the box. I actually do not like to be the center of attention, so I was sort of hoping no one would notice it was me. I have a male friend who is a top model, and I see his image EVERYWHERE! He is also shy and when people recognize him, he usually just says "no, you must have me mixed up with someone else." He even had a huge billboard in NYC.

Janee, I have visited your web site before and I am a HUGE fan of your artwork! : )

Ginger, you KNOW I love your art and always look forward to your IF posts. Congrats on getting your illo in the SCBWI newsletter this last month!

Mmmm...now I am craving ice cream!!

Well I would say that you would have been a great model! I used to love to watch the Solid Gold Dancers too!

And Mint Chocolate Chip is one of our family favorites.

Kathleen, I have a feeling we're around the same age since I, too, felt the need to be a Solid Gold dancer! My friends and I used to practice in my friend's basement for hours! :) And I, too, went through a major bug drawing phase a few years back! I've always had a love of bugs and could watch a colony of ants at work, well, for longer than one should! It's neat to see we all share so much in common!

Slow Churned forever! :)

Nice portfolio of work!
If you still have the box with your likeness on it: upload...upload it! (...or at least do a drawing of it, so we curious-types can see how a flesh and blood person translates onto a craft item carton...graphically, of course!)
